Franklin Ivan Benavides Pozo, age 71, beloved husband of Charitas Bayas de Benavides of Ansonia, died peacefully surrounded by his family on June 11, 2022, at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Born in Loja, Ecuador on January 13, 1951, he was the son of the late Juan Marco Benavides and Digna Maria Pozo. Mr. Pozo was a career serviceman with the Ecuadorian Army, he attained the rank of Sergeant Major of the Army and retired from active duty in 1998. Mr. Pozo was an accomplished Chef and owned a restaurant in Ecuador before immigrating to the U.S. in 1999. His passion for cooking lead to a position in the prepared foods department of the Derby Shop Rite, where he was employed for 10 years. At home, his kitchen was a sacred place where countless family meals were prepared with love and the holidays were joyfully celebrated. He will be long remembered for his love and compassion to all that were fortunate to have known him, his famous and delicious dishes, especially hornado! and the unique and special love he shared through his cooking. Jonathan, Victor Hugo and Vivian Lobato, Kaylhan and Jaydhel Benavides, Nathaly, Adrian, Dylan and Matias Duchimaza, Carolina, Mateo and Andra Benavides, Cristian, Xavier, Alejandra and Fabricio Benavides, Daniela and Ivan Quesada, cherished great-grandchildren, Juliana Lobato and Daniel Benavides; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Benavides, and brothers, Milton and Edmundo Benavides.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 10 :00 AM in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia.
