Gabriele Morelli, 81, of Derby, unexpectedly entered into eternal rest on Sunday evening, January 20, 2013, at Griffin Hospital. He was the beloved and devoted husband of Grace Verdun Morelli.
Mr. Morelli was born in Amantea, Cosenza, Italy on Sept. 20, 1931, son of the late Umberto and Fiorina Pizzino Morelli. A resident of Derby for 47 years, he was employed at Sikorsky Aircraft in Bridgeport for 27 years, where he built aluminum blades. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed cooking and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Grace, he is survived by two loving sons, Robert Morelli of Derby and John Morelli of Ansonia, a loving daughter, Fiorina Kaplan and her husband Eric of Wallingford, three brothers, Ettore and Vittorio Morelli of Amantea, Italy and Rocco Morelli of N. Bellmore, NY, a sister, Maria Morelli of Amantea, Italy, five cherished grandchildren, Megan and Matthew Morelli of Oxford, Samuel and Cameron Kaplan of Wallingford, and Gabriele Morelli of Meriden and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Alfredo Morelli and a sister, Aida Morelli.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday January 23, 2013, from 4 – 8 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Thursday, friends and relatives are invited to attend his funeral at 10:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia.
