Genevieve S. Walsh

Genevieve S. Walsh, age 100, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2017, at Hewitt Health and Rehab in Shelton. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert J. Walsh.

Genevieve was born in Ansonia on April 16, 1917, daughter of the late Walter and Julia Krzyzewski Sawicki.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Roberta J. Collins, two brothers, Alexander and Anthony Sawicki and four sisters, Laura Murasky, Alice James, Harriet Turgeon and Helen Rippert. She is survived by her two loving daughters, Sandra Fortier and her husband Maurice and Anita Macero and her husband Nicholas, her beloved grandchildren, Danielle Broderick, Matthew Broderick and Tamara Collins, great-granddaughter, Sadie Broderick and many loving nieces and nephews.

Genevieve lived to see her 100th birthday this past Easter and never lost her optimism, sense of humor and simple love of life. She had the most amazing attitude, always seemingly at peace and living in the moment. She attributed her long life to her positive attitude, her strong faith and daily two-mile walks before breakfast. She was a talented artist, and her family and friends treasure her many paintings that now hang in their homes. She will also be remembered for her beautiful afghans and her famous gingerbread boys that she baked and distributed every Christmas. Genevieve was a hard worker who retired from Uniroyal and Hewitt Memorial Hospital. After her retirement, she enjoyed traveling to Europe with her family and friends. Most importantly, Genevieve was and continues to be the heart and soul of our family.

A special heartfelt thanks to all the healthcare professionals and staff at Hewitt Health and Rehab who participated in her care.

Visiting will take place on Tuesday October 3, 2017, from 9:00 am until 10:30 am in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. At 10:40 am, her funeral will process to St. Joseph Church in Ansonia for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 am.
