Geno Bonitatibus

Geno Bonitatibus, age 94, of Shelton, entered into rest on Friday, July 19, 2024, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 67 years of the late Annamae (Muccia) Bonitatibus. Geno was born in Bridgeport on September 20, 1929, son of the late Daniel and Nicolena (Coccavali) Bonitatibus, and lived in Shelton since 1972.

He served his country with the United States Army during the Korean War. Geno began his career working in construction before joining Bullards and then Fairfield Lumber, and retiring from Housatonic Lumber Yard. He was an avid sports fan and a devoted follower of the NY Yankees. Geno enjoyed serving as an umpire for Little League and a referee in Biddy Basketball. He was a longtime member of the Shelton Republican Town Committee and served as city of Shelton Sealer of weights and measures. He was recognized for his leadership with the John Davis Lodge Award in 2017. Geno was known for his warmth and outgoing personality and never met a stranger wherever he went.

He is the beloved father of Laurie Hartman and her husband William, Linda Burney and her late husband William, and Michele Bonitatibus and her husband Daniel Pyatak. He was the proud grandfather of Kristen Bennett and her husband David and Lauren Dwelle and her husband Scott, and great grandfather of Hudson Bennett and Mason Dwelle. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Norma Bonitatibus, and several nieces and nephews. Geno was predeceased by two brothers, Daniel Buck” Bonitatibus and Russel Bonitatibus and his wife Grace, and two sisters, Antoniette Bonnie” Staffieri and her husband Joe, and Madeline Dora” Bonitatibus.

Friends may greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River road, Shelton, on Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM. On Thursday his procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Lawrence Church in Shelton. Entombment with Military Honors will follow at Mt. St. Peters Garden Mausoleum in Derby.
