George A. Sill, age 72, a lifelong Derby resident, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday May 22, 2018 at Griffin Hospital.
He was the beloved husband of 30 years to Mary (Amarante) Sill.
He was born in Derby on December 11, 1945 the son of the late Louis and Marian (Maloney) Sill.
George went through the Derby school system and later went on to earn two different Associate Degrees from Gateway Community College.
He was a driver for 40 years at the New Haven Register and at Valley Transit for 12 years before his retirement in 2016.
He was the former union president for both the New Haven Register and Valley Transit.
George was active in his church community serving as an usher and helping with events such as bingo. He was a realtor in the Valley for about 20 years.
He also enjoyed going on trips to the casino. He is also survived by his brother Bruce and his wife Linda, his brother Ronald and his wife Joyce, as well as 14 nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother Louis Jr. and his wife Elsie, his brother Robert, and his brother Richard and his wife Paula.
Friends are invited to greet George’s family on Friday, May 25 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St. Derby.
On Saturday everyone is invited to go directly to St. Mary’s Church, 212 Elizabeth St. Derby, for his Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow at Mt. St. Peter’s Cemetery.
