George Alexander Drew

George Alexander Drew, a 90 year old Orange resident and husband of 59 years to Mary Duncan Drew, passed away peacefully at home July 22 with his family by his side.

He was born in Derby Oct. 7, 1923 son of the late George and Isabel Drew.

George proudly served his country in the Navy during WWII aboard the destroyer U.S. LaValette as a signalman in Asian Pacific Theatre.

Upon returning home, George owned and operated A.G. Sales Co.

He owned several stores serving the Valley for over 50 years, becoming a well known and respected businessman, most recently United Cigar Store.

In addition to his loving wife, he leaves to cherish his memory his children Sandra Sullivan & her husband Brian of Meriden, Bethanne Winkle & her husband Craig of Orange, George Drew Jr. of Orange, Christine S. Drew of Branford, cherished grandchildren Craig J. Winkle Jr. and Katherine D. Winkle of Orange, and several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his brother John Drew & sister Emily Walters.

George was known for his love of family and kind heart and will be missed by all his many customers, family and extended family.

He enjoyed serving his community, being a member of King Hiram Masonic Lodge #12 in Shelton, The B.P.O.E. Elks Cub in Derby, and The Fountain Hose Fire Co. in Ansonia for over 50 years.

George was a member of The First Congregational Church in Ansonia.

The family would like to thank Vitas Home Health services and their many caregivers.

Per George’s request, there are no calling hours and funeral services will be private.
