OXFORD: George (Athans) Athanasiou, age 70, entered into eternal rest on June 12, 2021 at River Glen Health Care in Southbury. He was the beloved husband of Cecilia “Cissie” Korzan Athanasiou.
George was born in Derby on May 9, 1951, son of the late August and Vera Soresino Athanasiou. He was a resident of Oxford since 1999. George was employed as a clothing salesman at the former B&L Men’s and Boy’s clothing store in Ansonia then Wayside Clothing in Milford and retired from the former Gans Hardware in Ansonia. George was a former member of the Eagle Hose Hook and Ladder Company #6, in Ansonia and also a former member of Oxford Center Fire Department in Oxford, where he served as fire police.
In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory, sons, Marc Athanasiou and Jason Athanasiou (Maria) all of Oxford, a daughter, Erin Athanasiou (John O’Connell) of Derby, brothers, Charles Athanasiou (Jackie Holloway) of Naugatuck and William Athans of Shelton, grandchildren, Angel Lynn, Christian Athanasiou and Serenity Athanasiou, all of Oxford as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Irene Davis.
Visitation for friends and family will take place on Thursday June 17, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the chapel of SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. Masks are required for entry. On Friday, all are welcome to attend his funeral service at 11:30 am, at the funeral home, with Reverend Jeffrey Gubbiotti officiating.
