George F. Raslavsky, “The Czar,” age 90, entered peaceful rest on February 4, 2023, at Griffin Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Joan Koval Raslavsky.
George was born at home in Ansonia on April 17, 1932, son of the late George E. and Christine Ganetsky Raslavsky. A lifelong resident of Ansonia and graduate of Pine High School, he was employed as a toolmaker for Black & Decker in Shelton for forty years, until his retirement. George was a devoted communicant of St. Joseph Church in Ansonia, where he worked at the annual picnic and was part of the Warsaw Park “crew.”
In his younger years, he and several other fellow athletes, began the first slow pitch softball league not just in the Valley, but the entire east coast. He was also a coach for Ansonia Biddy Basketball and enjoyed walking, exercising daily and spending time at the beach. George was known by family and friends for his famous clam chowder and for sharing the vegetables that he grew in his garden. He was and an avid fan of Ansonia High School football, UConn women’s basketball and the NY Mets. Above all else, his favorite thing to do was spend time with his grandchildren.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a son, James Raslavsky of Ansonia, daughters, Joan Rondano (Rich) of Trumbull and Julie McGrath (Patrick) of Wakefield, RI, grandchildren, Megan Rondano of Trumbull, Brianna McGrath of Brookline, MA and J.P. McGrath of Atlanta, GA. He was predeceased by a son, George F. Raslavsky Jr.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Friday, February 10, 2023, from 9:00 to 10:30 am in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. His funeral will then proceed to St. Joseph’s Church, 32 Jewett Street in Ansonia, for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 am. Interment will immediately follow in St. Michael Cemetery in Derby. Contributions in George’s memory may be made directly to St. Joseph’s Church.
