George Howard Ward Jr.

George Howard Ward Jr., age 96, of Shelton passed away February 28, at Saint Vincent Medical Center, Bridgeport. 

Born Oct. 2, 1926 in Edmunds, Maine, son of the late George Howard Sr. and Mildred Louise Ward. He enlisted and proudly served his country in the Army Air Corp during World War II. George earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Maine, Orono, thanks to the GI Bill. 

Furthering his education at Rochester Institute of Technology, he earned his master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, becoming a Professional Engineer, and retiring from the Norwalk Compressor Company. 

He was an active member of the Huntington United Methodist Church, the Gideon’s, King Hiram Masonic Lodge in Shelton, Harmony Grange #92 in Monroe, and the Nutmeg Pomona Grange. A lifelong sports enthusiast, George enjoyed numerous hours of professional sportscasts, and watching his beloved Boston Red Sox. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Sarazyn Ward of 66 years, his sister Shirley Wilder Godet, brother Alton Hugh and Clifford Leroy Ward. 

Left to cherish his memory are his five children, sons Gerald (Dorothy), of Endicott, New York, Richard (Carol), of Seymour, CT and Franklin Ward (Lynne), of Farmington Hills, Michigan, daughters Barbara Ward of Dennysville, Maine and Jeannette Greathouse (Mike) of Oxford, CT, grandchildren Dr. Jeffrey P. (Dr. Stacy), Jonathan P. (Laura), and James P. Ward (Kate), Rex D. Roberts (Zamantha), Michael A., Sara and Kelly Greathouse, Valerie Ward, Benjamin and James Rich, and great grandchildren: Benjamin George, Zachary, Julianna, Grace, Olivia, and Ona Ward. 

Friends may call on Saturday, March 4 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia. Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 5 at 1:00 p.m. at The Huntington United Methodist Church, Shelton. He will be buried privately in the family plot in Furnaceville, NY. Friends who wish may make contributions in his memory, to his church.
