Gerald P. Kennedy, 89, retired Ansonia Police Detective Sergeant, peacefully entered into eternal rest on November 25, 2013, at CT Hospice in Branford. He was the beloved husband of 66 years to Josephine Asciutto Kennedy.
Mr. Kennedy was born in Ansonia on January 22, 1924, son of the late Jeremiah and Lillian Egan Kennedy.
A lifelong resident of Ansonia, he served with the Ansonia Police Department for 32 years, retiring with the rank of Detective Sergeant.
A proud veteran, he honorably served in the U.S. Navy during Word War II. He was a devoted communicant of Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia, where he was head usher, longtime volunteer at the annual Italian Festa and a member of its Catholic Men’s Club.
In addition to his wife Josephine, he is survived by two sons, Jeremiah F. Kennedy (Ilene) of Ansonia and Paul L. Kennedy (Donna) of Naugatuck, two grandchildren, Eddie Kennedy and Jeanne Lisewski, two great-grandchildren, Zoey Kennedy and Peter J. Lisewski, and several in- laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was predeceased by brothers, Leon, Francis, Michael and Joseph Kennedy and sisters, Mary Browning and Anna Galligan.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday November 29, 2013, from 9:30 am until 10:30 am in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia.
At 11:00 am, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia followed by U.S. Navy military honors.
Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405 or through the funeral home.
