Gertrude (Cronin) Essenbreis, age 95, of Stratford, beloved mother of Judith, entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 8, 2013, at Lord Chamberlain Nursing Rehabilitation Center in Stratford.
Born on October 23, 1917 in New York City to the late William and Gertrude Cronin, she attended school and worked in New York. Gertrude became a homemaker, married to Philip Essenbreis for 47 years before his death. The family lived in Queens and then East Northport (Long Island) for many years before moving to Florida and then to Stratford in 2000.
Gertrude enjoyed gardening, reading, watching sports on tv (baseball and golf), visiting and lunching with family and friends, and traveling to the southern coast of Maine and to Florida. She felt blessed to have visited Ireland when she was 80 years old.
In addition to her loving daughter, Judy, she is survived by her dear nieces June Bellofatto and Laura (Sal) Congemi also, several other nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
She was also predeceased by her brothers William, John, Joseph and Edward Cronin and her sisters Catherine Cronin and Marion Steinbach.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the 4th Floor nurses and staff at Lord Chamberlain for their kindness and care given to Gertrude.
Friends may greet her family on Thursday From 8:45AM to 9:30 AM at the Riverview Funeral Home 390 River Rd Shelton. At 9:45 AM her funeral procession will leave the funeral home for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Margaret Mary Church, 384 Long Hill Ave., Shelton. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Coram, NY.
