Gina Mattei

Gina Mattei, age 55 of Hollywood, Fl. entered into rest on Saturday December 25, 2021 in her home with her loving son and sister by her side. 

She was born in Derby on July 11, 1966, devoted daughter of Gaetana Mazzucco Mattei and the late Louis Mattei. After being raised in Derby, Gina stayed a resident of the Valley before moving to Florida three years ago. 

Gina had a career in elder care working as a memory care and recreation director for several assisted living facilities before accepting the position as the Memory Care Director at the Sheridan Assisted Living 3 years ago in Copper City, Florida. Gina had a passion for her career. 

She was recognized for her many accomplishments in her career and her valued contributions to the patients in memory care and her work with the Alzheimer’s Association.

Her greatest joy were her 2 sons David and Louis. She is the beloved mother of David W. Ahearn, Jr. and the late Louis D. Ahearn, and loving sister of Marie Cavanaugh and her husband Mike, Grace Sojka and her husband Dennis, Alyson Anderson and her husband Steve, proud aunt of Robert and Matthew Karpiuk, Dennis Sojka, Jr. and Deanna Sciacca, Stephen Anderson and Katie Howard, great aunt of Ava, Riley, Madison, Maisie, Penelope, Colton, Christopher, and Alex. She is also survived by her dog Maya and several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

Due to the high rate of the pandemic a walk through wake will be held on Tuesday January 4, 2022 from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St. Derby. Visitors are asked to wear masks and social distance as they walk through, pay their respects, and exit without lingering to ensure all guests can come through the building. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday January 5, 2022 at 10 am in St. Mary Church 212 Elizabeth St. Derby. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org. For those who can not attend the Mass will be livestreamed on the funeral home website.
