Giovanni B. DiGiacomo, age 89, entered peaceful rest on April 4, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Margaret M. Hemingway DiGiacomo.
Giovanni was born in Naples, Italy on October 16, 1933, son of the late Giovanni and Carmela Buonincontro DiGiacomo. A resident of Derby since 1962, Giovanni was employed as a master diesel mechanic for the former Hull Dye in Derby and later for Beard Construction in Shelton, until his retirement. Giovanni was a licensed pilot who flew piper cub airplanes. He enjoyed playing the piano and singing, especially opera. He also liked to play and watch soccer. Giovanni was an incredible handyman, there was nothing he could not fix. He was a devout communicant of Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia.
In addition to his wife Margaret, Giovanni leaves to cherish his memory, brothers, Salvatore DiGiacomo of Seymour and Gerardo DiGiacomo of Florida, sister, Anna Maria Weitzler (Peter) of Ansonia, brother-in-law, David Hemingway of New Hampshire, nieces and nephews, Assunta Heeg (Timothy), Earl Robinson (Geri), Linda Robinson, Elena Worman (Nathan), Massimo Nyiry (Kathy), Edward Vanchot (Ellen), Anthony Weitzler (Kathy), Terry Ann DiGiacomo-Galla, Catherine Albarella (Michael), Roberto Rotondi (Maria), Peter J. “PJ” Weitzler (Cindy), Andre Vanchot (Kessa Halo), William “Billy” Weitzler (Laura), Lisa Merrick (Carlo) and Gina Aldridge (Greg). He was predeceased by brothers, Antonio and Ettore DiGiacomo, sisters, Consiglia Vozza, Giustina Vanchot, Maria Rosario Rotondi, sisters-in-law, Patricia DiGiacomo, Kathy DiGiacomo and Nancy Hemingway and brother-in-law, Sonny Hemingway.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, by meeting directly at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia, at 12:00 noon, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will immediately follow in Mount Saint Peter Cemetery in Derby. Visitation will be private. The SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME in Ansonia has been privileged with the arrangements.
