Giovanni Francucci, 92, beloved husband of Camilla Ascenzo Francucci, of Derby, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Tuesday morning, October 11, 2011, in the comfort of his home, with his loving family by his side.
Mr. Francucci was born in Cambridge, MA on Sept. 14, 1919, son of the late Nicola and Maria Volpe Francucci. At the age of 8, he and his family moved to San Valentino, Pescara, Abruzzi, Italy. He later served in the Italian Army during WW 2 and was captured as a P.O.W. At the age of 25, he returned to Cambridge and worked in construction. At the age of 45, he retired and returned to Italy where he enjoyed farming, tending to his vineyards and olive trees, and spending time with his family and numerous friends. Giovanni enjoyed and was very proud of his wine and olive oil making. He was a very caring and generous man, who was greatly loved and respected by his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a niece “daughter”, Diva Francucci of Derby, with whom he made his home, nieces and nephews, Maria Montepara, Clelia Beaty, Nick Francucci, Bruno Mastrodicasa, Flora Marulli, Nick Francucci, Frances Martinelli, Mario Francucci, John and Oscar Ascenzo, and Rosanna Marrone, great-nieces, “granddaughters”, Rosanna Skurat (John) and Loredana Senetcen (David), great-great nieces “great-great-granddaughters”, Nicole and Rebecca Senetcen, a brother, Laurino Francucci (Bambina) of Watertown, MA, sisters in law, Concetta Francucci of Ansonia and Adalgisa Francucci of Belmont, MA, a brother in law, Donato Ascenzo and his family of Australia and several other great nieces & nephews and great-great nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Carlo, Sabatino, & Antonio Francucci, a sister, Annunziata Mastrodicasa, a niece, Ada Monaco, and nephews, Nick & Giulio Francucci.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Friday October 14, 2011, at 8:15 am from the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia.
