Grace (Verdun) Morelli, age 82, entered into the arms of “Our Lord and Savior” on May 24, 2022, in Griffin Hospital, with her loving family by her side, following a courageous battle with COPD. She was the beloved wife of the late Gabriele Morelli.
Grace was born in Porto Empedocle, Province of Agrigento, Sicily, Italy on November 17, 1939, daughter of the late Vittorio and Nancy Caruana Verdun. After immigrating to the United States at the age of six, she grew up in Brooklyn, NY and settled in Connecticut in 1966. She was employed as an EKG technician at Griffin Hospital until her retirement in 2001. Grace was active in many prayer groups and enjoyed watching Mass daily on EWTN, reading and spending time with her family.
She leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Robert Morelli of Derby and John Morelli of Derby, a daughter, Fiorina Kaplan (Eric) of Wallingford, brothers, Tony Verdun (Roberta) of Monroe Township, NJ and Joseph Verdun (Rosalia) of Roselle Park, NJ, a sister, Joann Pastore (Michael) of Staten Island, NY, grandchildren, Megan Morelli of NYC, Matthew Morelli of Derby, Samuel and Cameron Kaplan of Wallingford and Gabriele Morelli of Meriden as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family sends a heart-felt thank you to Dr. Roman Spivak and the staff of Griffin Hospital, especially the Respiratory Department, for their wonderful care throughout the years.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects and greet the family on Friday May 27, 2022, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Saturday, May 28, 2022, her funeral will begin at 9:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Holy Rosary Church, 10 Father Salemi Drive in Ansonia. Entombment will immediately follow in Mt. St. Peter’s Garden Mausoleum in Derby.
