Harold F. Gibbs, Jr., age 74 of Meriden, formerly of Seymour, devoted husband of the late Patricia Wert Gibbs, passed away August 3, 2016 at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Harold was born in Bridgeport, December 6, 1941, son of the late Harold F. Gibbs Sr. and Ann E. Ziegler Gibbs.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis onboard the USS Shangri-La (CV-38).
Harold worked as a welder at the former Bullard Havens Foundry of Bridgeport for over 20 years and later worked as a diesel mechanic for Hi-Ho Petroleum until his retirement. He was a proud member of the NRA for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends with whom he shared his sea stories with and was also an avid animal lover.
He is survived by his sons, Harold F. Gibbs, III (Denise) and Daniel T. Gibbs (Melissa), and eight grandchildren. Besides his wife Patricia, he was predeceased by his daughter, Barbara Ann Gibbs.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 PM in the James T. Toohey & Son Funeral Home, 92 Howe Ave., Shelton followed by Full Military Honors. Calling hours will be held from 12 PM until time of service.
