Harry (Lime) Katzman

Harry (Lime) Katzman, 87, of Ansonia, beloved husband of Carolyn (Sitar) Katzman and son of the late Aaron and Tamara (Witkin) Katzman, passed away on June 8, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. 

Harry was born on August 7, 1930 in Canada. 

Despite the loss of his right arm in an accident at the age of five, Harry went on to become an outstanding slow pitch and fast pitch softball player, as well as coaching and managing many teams. 

In addition, he excelled in basketball; gaining notoriety for earning the national record for scoring 44 points in a single game, as a one armed player.Harry’s career began at The Evening Sentinel, covering and writing about games throughout the Valley. 

He scored a big hit when he developed a weekly column; Limelights. He continued his coverage of games while participating in nightly summer leagues. He was promoted to Sports Editor, which continued until his retirement 35 years later. 

Harry was affiliated with several teams; one being the Ansonia Norwoods, a semi-pro team, and played with and against many notables including Wilt Chamberlain. 

In addition to his loving wife, Carolyn, Harry leaves behind his daughters, Carol Lee Reppucci and her husband Michael, of MA, Sally Oppedisano and her husband Randy of CT, brother-in-law Raymond Sitar and his wife Aphia of CT, five grandchildren, Wil Sweny of CT, Travis Sweny of MA, Ashley Pine and her husband Matthew Of CT, Evan and Alannah Oppedisano of CA, Lindsay Oppedisano of CT, two great-grandchildren, Jameson and Emerson Pine and several beloved nephews, nieces and friends.

Funeral Services were held at Beth Israel Cemetery in Orange, on June 10. 

The Robert E. Shure Funeral Home, New Haven was in care of arrangements.
