Harry Robert Marks

Harry Robert Marks, born on August 10, 1940, in Seymour, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at home on July 5, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones after a brave battle with illness.

Harry was the son of Katherine Scott and John Marks and grew up alongside his three siblings: John Marks, Joseph Marks, and Earl Marks. He was deeply devoted to his late wife, Marsilia Marks (DeSantis), with whom he shared a beautiful life and welcomed three children: Marco Gianotti (Barbara Gianotti), Anna Fanotto (John Fanotto), and Marsilia Chacho (John Chacho). His legacy continues through his eight grandchildren: John Fanotto, Zachary Fanotto, Stephanie Gianotti, Julianne Sciarappa (Giovanni Sciarappa), Jessica Gianotti, Sarah Chacho, John Chacho Jr., and Jake Chacho, as well as his two great-grandchildren, Ella and Filomena Sciarappa.

Harry grew up in Oxford, Connecticut and spent the duration of his adult life in Seymour, Connecticut, where he made significant contributions to his community. He was a dedicated employee of Kerite Company until his retirement and was actively involved in local politics, striving to make Seymour a better place for all its residents. Harry’s love for his community was only surpassed by his love for his family. He relished family vacations to Cape Cod, enjoyed gardening, and could often be found on his lawnmower or tending to his flower beds and vegetables.

Harry will be remembered for his warmth and generosity. His family treasures the memories of the Chips Ahoy cookies and Mountain Dew he always kept stocked, the endless puzzles he enjoyed creating, his shopping trips, and the surplus of quarters he kept in his car. He was a beloved figure in his neighborhood, always ready to lend an ear to friends, family, and neighbors, often found sitting in his garage enjoying their company. Harry’s fondness for cherry cordials and his unique collection of ceramic cats will also be remembered.

In addition to his love for family and community, Harry had a deep appreciation for the arts and culinary delights. He frequently visited Turk’s Seafood Restaurant, where he enjoyed many memorable meals. An aficionado of Italian opera music and, specifically, Luciano Pavoratti, Harry found great joy and solace in its powerful melodies, which often filled his home.

His grandchildren and great-grandchildren will always cherish the memories of cleaning out his quarters stash and enjoying trips to the Dollar Tree as young children. Harry was a constant presence at special events, always offering his unwavering support to those he loved.

Harry Robert Marks leaves behind an incredible legacy of love, kindness, and community spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Rest in peace, Harry. You are reunited with your beloved wife, and your spirit will forever live on in the hearts of your family and friends.
