Harvey J. Paulin Jr., age 87, a resident of Derby for twenty-two years, entered peaceful rest on Thursday evening, May 11, 2023, in the comfort of his home, with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of sixty years to Maria Ugarte Paulin.
Mr. Paulin was born in Rumford, Maine on January 6, 1936, son of the late Harvey J. Paulin Sr. and Bella Coulum Paulin. He attained his Bachelor’s Degree and Master of Science Degree from Southern CT State University. He was employed as a biology teacher for the United States Department of Defense Dependent Schools in England, Spain, and Portugal for forty-one years and later was a Professor in the Math Department for both the University of New Haven and the University of Bridgeport until his illness. Harvey was a communicant of Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia and enjoyed music, singing, and playing the guitar. He was an Eagle Scout and former leader in Europe and a member of the Order of the Arrow.
In addition to his wife Maria, he leaves to cherish his memory, a son, Michael H. Paulin (Jodi) of Watertown, CT, a daughter, Suzanne Paulin Chene (Jacques Olivier) of France, grandchildren, Sofia, Sami, Alex, Antoine, Beatrice, Jack, and Charlie as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Anna Maria Paulin, a brother, Robert Paulin, and sisters, Jeannine Morzello, Pauline Lucas, and Marie Therese Piccinino.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Friday, May 19, 2023, at 12:00 noon by meeting directly at Holy Rosary Church, 10 Father Salemi Drive in Ansonia for a Mass of Christian Burial. There will be no calling hours. Entombment in Mount Saint Peter’s Mausoleum in Derby will take place at the convenience of the family.
