Helen King (Beto)

Helen King, age 102, of Shelton, peacefully entered into rest in her home on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. She was the devoted wife of the late James L. King, Jr. Helen was born in Bridgeport on June 9, 1922, daughter of the late John and Mary (Vaisil) Beto, and lived in Shelton for the past thirty years.

She worked as a secretary for the Bullard Company in Bridgeport and at the Black Rock Library. Helen enjoyed spending her time at the Shelton Senior Center. She attended exercise class there twice a week and never missed a party at the Center. She also enjoyed quilting and was an avid supporter of the arts, attending plays, musicals, and Tanglewood in Massachusetts.

She is the beloved mother of James L. King and Beverly McCabe and her husband Barry, cherished grandmother of Sean McCabe and his wife Rebecca and Jason McCabe, and proud great-grandmother of Theadora and Connor McCabe. She is also survived by her cousin Arlene Vaisil and nephew Thomas Mushrim and his wife Lydia. Helen was predeceased by two sisters, Irene Mushrim and Grace Beto.

Friends may greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton on Sunday from 1 to 3 PM. On Monday her procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at St. Lawrence Church. Burial will follow at Mountain Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport.
