Helen Madura

Helen J. (Kashuba) Madura, age 74, of Sunset Beach, NC. and formerly of Seymour, entered into rest on Sunday December 17, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. 

She was the beloved wife of 51 years to Benjamin P. Madura, Jr. 

She was born in Derby, on October 18, 1943 the daughter of the late Edward and Helen (Garbien) Kashuba.

Helen was a graduate of St. Mary High School in New Haven and earned her degree from the St. Mary Hospital School of Nursing in Waterbury in 1964. She was employed as a registered nurse for 17 years at the VA Hospital in West Haven before moving on to work in the Sikorsky Aircraft Medical Department in Stratford for 17 more years before her retirement. Helen stayed busy by working for Visiting Nurse Services and then volunteering in North Carolina. 

She was a former member of the Sea Trail Garden Club, Sea Trail Lady Niners, a 2 time champion. She loved gardening, puzzles, crossword puzzles, and rooting for the UCONN Women’s Basketball Team. Most of all, Helen loved visiting with her family. 

She is survived by her daughter Melissa A. Massicotte and her husband Stephen of Naugatuck, her daughter Patricia A. Virzi of Ansonia, her daughter Kristy A. Lindner of Guilford, her daughter Michelle A. Ratineri and her husband Christopher of Old Saybrook, her daughter Jessica A. Madura of Old Bridge, NJ., her 5 grandchildren Simone and Jocelyn Virzi, Ryan and Jenna Massicotte, and Cayden Ratineri, her sister Patricia O’Reilly and her husband Robert of New Canaan, as well as 5 nieces and nephews.

Friends may greet Helen’s family on Friday December 22 from 4 to 8 PM in the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St., Derby. Her funeral procession will leave the funeral home on Saturday at 8:30 AM for her Mass of Christian Burial at 9 AM in St. Michael’s Church, 75 Derby Ave., Derby. Burial will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, her family asks that memorial contributions be made to St. Michael’s Church or to the Leukemia Society at donate.lls.org
