Helen Ptak

ANSONIA: Helen A. (Milek) Ptak, age 92, entered eternal rest on April 25, 2025, at Griffin Hospital in Derby, with her loving son by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Michael J. Birdie” Ptak.

Born in Orange on January 28, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary Brejnak Milek. A true pillar of the family, Helen was a homemaker who lovingly cared for her house and family. She also took the time to care for her mother, father and brother, John Milek, until their passings. Helen was a devout communicant of St. Joseph Church in Ansonia serving as a member of the Women’s Guild and Parish Council. The archdiocese awarded her with the St. Joseph Medal of Appreciation for her outstanding volunteer work with the church. She was a member of the Polish Falcons Ansonia Nest, serving as past President, recording Secretary and was proudly awarded their Legion of Honor medal. Helen was instrumental in organizing and administrating the Warsaw Park polka dances and chairwoman of the Centennial Ball for the City of Ansonia. She was also a prominent member of the Ansonia Historical Commission and the Tadeusz Kosciuszko Society.

Helen leaves to cherish her memory, a loving son, Mark A. Ptak and his wife Terri of Seymour along with several beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Stanley, Alexander, Benjamin and John Milek and sisters, Virginia Siekierski, Jennie Cordner, Agnes Saddig and Sophie Sobireski, nephews, Jeffrey Saddig, Leon Junior” Siekierski and David Siekierski, and a niece, Cindy Sobireski.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm in the chapel of SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Thursday morning, all are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial by meeting directly at St Joseph Church in Ansonia for 11:00 am. Interment will immediately follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Ansonia.
