Helen Slovak

Helen T. Slovak, age 88, of Shelton, entered into eternal rest on Thursday Feb. 13, 2014 in St. Vincent Medical Center.

She was the devoted and caring wife of 64 years to Joseph J. Slovak, Sr. who loved her very much.

Helen was born in Czechoslovakia on June 14, 1925, daughter of the late Stefan and Anna (Huszar) Zdravecky and was a resident of Shelton for most of her life. 

Helen was an avid golfer who played golf with her husband every afternoon at the Brownson Country Club. She also loved to garden, travel and enjoyed playing bridge. Helen’s husband Joseph was an architect and Helen was a Past President of the Connecticut Society of Architects Ladies Guild.

Helen is the beloved mother of John Jack” J. Slovak, Joseph J. Slovak, Jr. and his wife Deborah and Janet A. Hiltz and her husband Gorden, Jr. and will be greatly missed. Helen is also the proud grandmother of Sara and Ryan Slovak, and Brianne, Gorden, III and Geoffrey Hiltz. She is the loving sister of Maryanne Lumpinsky, Martha Mikusky, Dorothy Acampora, and Stephen Stravecky. Helen is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 pm at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd. Shelton. Her funeral will leave the funeral home on Tuesday at 10:45 for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am in St. Lawrence Church, Shelton. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery.
