Helen Wlodek

Helen Wlodek, age 88, of Shelton, entered into rest on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Yale-New Haven Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Stanley J. Wlodek. Mrs. Wlodek was born in Shelton, on May 21, 1927, daughter of the late Ludwick and Catherine (Fryc) Zaprzalka. 

She was an employee at the former B.F. Goodrich for 25 years before becoming a secretary at Jacobs Steel until her retirement. She was a member of the Polish Falcons of America Nest 208 and received the Gold Medal of Honor. Mrs. Wlodek was a member and Treasurer for the Seymour Senior Center. She was also a member of the Ansonia, Derby and Shelton Senior Centers. 

Mrs. Wlodek loved to travel, both with her husband and her friends, and did not miss a family celebration regardless of where it was held. She was a sharp card player, from the weekly pinochle games at the Senior Center, to lively family holiday marathon matches. She loved to dance and was an avid gardener.

Mrs. Wlodek is the devoted aunt of Michael, Thomas and John Zaprzalka, Susan Mauriello, Sharon Bondos-Hume, Joyce Bondos, Betty Lepri, Patricia Dimon, Mary Ann Cudrnak, Judy Barber, Robert Kacinski, Carolyn Meloling, Janice Napolitano, John Sedor, Kristen Kerr, Julie-Ann Pohly and Greg, Stephen and Thomas Turaj. She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews and several great great nieces and nephews. Mrs. Wlodek is predeceased by brothers, Stanley and Joseph Zaprzalka, two sisters, Jean Zaprzalka and Stella Bondos, a niece Susan Rouelle and a nephew Paul Kacinski. 

Friends may call on Thursday April 21st from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St., Derby. On Friday April 22nd her funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. for her Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael Church at 11:00 a.m.. Her burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
