Herbert J. Libby, Jr., age one hundred, passed away on February 25, 2025, after a brief illness at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT. He was the husband of the late Ruth (Johns) Libby and son of the late Herbert and Florence (Johns) Libby.
Herb was born in Seymour, CT on July 20, 1924. He was an employee of the Eastern Company in Naugatuck CT, where he had a lengthy career as an Industrial Engineer. He was a graduate of Seymour High School. Herb served as a Master Machinist in the U.S. Navy for 3 years, and received American Theater, Asiatic Pacific Theater, and Victory Medals.
He graduated from Davis & Elkins College in West Virginia with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He was a member of the Masons and Shriners. He and his loving wife enjoyed traveling and snowmobiling among other outside activities, as well as spending time with their family and many friends. Herb will be sadly missed by all but will forever remain in our hearts.
Herb leaves his brother Richard Libby and his nieces and nephews Kyle Darnell, Reid Libby, William Johns, Lisa Johns-Elmy, Laura Johns, Joyce Johns, Beth Keckler and Edward Johns. He was pre-deceased by his brother William Libby and nephews Craig and Michael Johns.
A Memorial Service in Celebration of Herb’s life will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 4 pm in the Chapel of the Miller-Macari Family Funeral Home, 260 Bank St. Seymour CT with Reverend Tammy Theis-Satterlee, Pastor of Seymour Congregational Church officiating. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 3:00 pm until the start of the service at 4:00 pm.
