Irene Gertrude (Butts) Schurawich, age 84 of Shelton, beloved wife of Anthony Schurawich, passed away peacefully at home August 1, 2013 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Born at Griffin Hospital in Derby on November 3, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine (Moore) Butts and was a lifelong resident of Shelton.
After graduating from Shelton High School in 1946, she was a hairdresser at the old Malley’s Store in New Haven. Later she worked in the purchasing department of the Kerite Company, Seymour where she met the love of her life, Tony.
Irene was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church, Shelton for all her life and relied heavily on her Catholic faith.
An avid reader, Irene always loved to travel to places she read about. Along with Tony and Kathy, she traveled to Greece, Egypt, Morocco, the Panama Canal and all 50 states. She was a devoted wife, mother, and friend who loved to laugh and help others to see the joy in life.
Survivors include Tony, her husband of 54 years and loving daughter, Kathy Parker of Loganville, GA. Friends are invited to attend Irene’s funeral on Wednesday, August 7th for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph Church, Shelton.
Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Shelton. Calling hours will be held from 8 A.M. to 10:15 A.M. at the JAMES T. TOOHEY & SON FUNERAL HOME, 92 HOWE AVE., SHELTON.
