Irene Orazietti Ferrara

Irene Orazietti Ferrara, 96, of Derby, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Wednesday May 6, 2015, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford following a valiant fight with two forms of cancer.

Irene was born in Derby on September 24, 1918, daughter of the late Gernando and Marietta Santini Orazietti. She was employed at Bradlees in Derby and retired from Griffin Hospital in Derby. She was a member of the Derby Senior Center, Adriatic Marchegian Club in Derby and the former Lafayette Club. Irene will be remembered for her ability in making everyone laugh at her numerous jokes, antics and costumes, even in her last days at Marshall Lane Manor and Lord Chamberlain Health Care. Don’t forget the big red nose” she put on! Irene also had a passion for cooking Italian meals for her family.

She is survived by a loving and devoted daughter, Patricia Ferrara of Derby, cherished grandchildren, Lorine Zdanowski (Mark) and Jeffrey Guagenti (Tanya), great-grandchildren, Kendra and Eric Zdanowski and Deanna Bevan, step-grandchildren, Tiara and Brandon Guagenti, her newest love, great great granddaughter, Ariana, niece and sister in law, Geraldine Fedusi Ferrara and several other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Fannie Fedusi, Carrie Barbieri, Helen Benanto and Jennie Iannone.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday May 9, 2015, from 9:30 am until 11:30 am, in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. At 11:30 am, a funeral service in celebration of Irene’s life will take place with Rev. Leonard Kvedas officiating. Interment will be private.
