James F. Alcutt Jr., 81, of Ansonia, beloved husband of Barbara J. Dufresne Alcutt, peacefully entered into eternal rest on October 26, 2011, at Griffin Hospital.
Mr. Alcutt was born in Derby on June 6, 1930, son of the late James F. and Anna Balint Alcutt Sr. A lifelong resident of Ansonia, he was employed at the former B.F. Goodrich for over 30 years and later as a welder at Page-Wilson in Shelton. A proud veteran, he honorably served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Jim was considered by most as the “best fast-pitch softball hitter the Valley ever produced. Alcutt played for Windy Hill, the championship Ansonia VFW team, one year with the famed Columbus Bear team and ended his career with the Derby Clippers. He could hit for average and during his career belted over 300 home runs. He was a longtime member of the Central Subalpi Club in Ansonia, previously having served as President and Chairman, and a lifetime member of the VFW. He was a former girls’ softball coach in Ansonia and enjoyed playing golf, bowling, and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox.
In addition to his wife Barbara, he is survived by three sons, James F. Alcutt III (Beth) of Derby, John J. Alcutt of Las Vegas, NV, and Daniel B. Alcutt of Salem, OR, two daughters, Patricia Ann Criscuolo (Bill) of Holiday, FL and Suzanne M. Taylor (Michael) of Caroga Lake, NY, a brother, Richard J. Alcutt (Susan) of FL, 17 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Monday October 31, 2011, at 8:15 am from the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. Interment with Navy military honors will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Ansonia. Visiting hours will be held on SUNDAY from 2 – 5 pm.
