James P. O’Shea

James P. O’Shea, age 77 of Shelton, entered into rest on Tuesday May 3, 2016 at Griffin Hospital in Derby. He was the devoted husband of Frances (Riley) O’Shea for 53 years. 

James was born in New York City on August 23, 1938, son of the late Walter and Mary (Murphy) O’Shea and was a Shelton resident since 1971. 

James served his country as a First Lieutenant in the United States Armed Forces during the Vietnam. Following his military services, he went on to work as a roofer for Main Roofing, Quality Roofing, Premier Roofing, and Benco Roofing before his retirement. James was an active member of the Elk’s Lodge #571 in Derby for 24 years and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an avid sports fan who like the Giants and basketball. 

He is the beloved father of Lisa (O’Shea) Mortensen, Colleen O’Shea-Burout, and Michael O’Shea. James also leaves behind 3 sisters Patricia Lau, Mary Pierce, and Evelyn Erdmann and 1 brother Walter O’Shea. He was the cherished grandfather of Edward, Jason, and Casey Forster, Amanda O’Shea, and Matthew, Andrew, and Christopher Burout. James was also the loving great grandfather of Devon and Kylie Forster, Lily Forster, and Tristan Wright. He also leaves behind his lifelong friend Stan Tice, and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Griffin ICU Doctors and Nurses for the care that their loved one received.

Friends may greet his family at Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, on Thursday, May 12 from 4 to 7 PM. On Friday his procession will leave the funeral home at 10 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30AM at St. Joseph’s Church, Shelton. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
