Jean E. Marra, age 92, of Seymour, entered peacefully into rest on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 in Lutheran Home of Southbury. She was the devoted wife to her beloved husband of 67 years, the late Frederick J. Marra, Jr.. Jean was born in Derby on August 5, 1931, daughter of the late John and Christine (Johnson) Tarantino. She raised her family in Shelton before moving to The Villages in Florida for 17 years, returning to the Valley in 2015 and living in Seymour.
Jean worked as an office manager in the insurance field for a number of years. She was active in the Girl Scouts for many years as a former Troop Leader and proudly served on the Sunnyside School PTA. Jean enjoyed playing Bingo and card games, and was an active library volunteer while living in The Villages. Above all else, Jean was a devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and caring for her family was her greatest love.
She is the beloved mother of Kim Karkut and her husband Ronald, Frederick J. Marra, III and his wife Kathryne, and David Marra and his wife Joni, proud grandmother to Justin, Rachel, Gina, Patrick and Molly, and cherished great-grandmother to Rose, Declan, Maeve, Ryan, Brock, Liam, Chase and Aiden. She is also survived by a beloved niece, Leigh Schultz, and three fur babies, Lily, Muffin, and Austin. Jean was predeceased by her sister, Charlotte Russell.
The family would like to thank the staff at Smithfield Gardens Assisted Living in Seymour where she resided for nine years, and the Lutheran Home of Southbury for their friendship and compassionate care.
Friends may greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton on Saturday July 13 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM. At noon her funeral service will begin in the parlor. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
