Jean E. Vollaro, age 91, a lifelong resident of Shelton, entered into eternal rest on November 26, 2023, at Griffin Hospital. She was the devoted wife of 63 years to Charles M. Vollaro. She was born on December 24, 1931, in Shelton, daughter of the late Willard S. Nicholas, Sr. and Josephine B. Nicholas (Webb).
One of Jean’s greatest joys in life was spending time with her family. She was a 1954 Alumni of The University of Connecticut, member of the University choir, and played the flute in the University Band. Jean was an active member in the Archery club and the Mansfield Grange. She attended mass for over 80 years at Huntington Congregational Church where she was also a choir member for over 70 years. In her later years, she spent many happy hours in the garden tending to her flowers, making challenging origami characters, and quilting blankets, runners, and vests. Jean enjoyed researching our family tree through several on-line websites. She loved playing the piano and practicing church hymns. She was an active member of the Shelton Chapter of AARP and a member of the Derby and Shelton Senior Centers.
Jean is survived by her two sons, Mark Vollaro of Shelton and David Vollaro and his wife, Beverly of Glen Ridge N.J., three grandchildren, Shawn Vollaro, Hayley Fiorentino, and Allison Fiorentino, sister Dorothy Sutton, brother Willard (Bill) Nicholas and his wife Lupe.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton. Family and friends are invited to attend Jean’s funeral Mass at 11 AM on Thursday, Nov. 30, at the Huntington Congregational Church. Burial will follow at Huntington Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Huntington Congregational Church, 19 Church St, Shelton CT 06484. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.riverviewfh.com.
