Jean Elizabeth Scianna, age 93, of Shelton entered into rest on Monday, March 20, 2023 at Bishop Wicke Health & Rehab. She was predeceased by her husband of 26 years, John Scianna.
Jean was born in Bridgeport on April 5, 1929 daughter of the late Raymond and Katherine (Pelczar) Raksa. She resided in Bridgeport for many years before moving to Shelton at the age of 55. She was the administrative assistant to the President of St. Vincent’s Medical Center for many years until her retirement. Jean was an active communicant and volunteer at St. Joseph Church. She was a past President for the St. Vincent’s Medical Center’s Retiree Group and a member of the Shelton Senior Center. Jean loved quilting and crocheting and was also a skilled seamstress and tailor. She enjoyed crocheting quilts for the homeless and prayer shawls. Jean also enjoyed crafting items for the Hole in the Wall Gang. She was a loving and caring person and would help anyone in need. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her family and loved all animals, especially when her family would bring their pets to visit.
Jean was the beloved mother of Roberta Piroscafo, Donna (Thomas) Mahoney, Christine Scianna, Kathleen (Frederick) Hammond, Lori Scianna and Timothy Scianna, loving grandmother of Gina Piroscafo, Julie (Devon) Piroscafo-Powers, Donato (Jamie Botteon) Piroscafo, Lauren Piroscafo, Brendan (Amanda Rasmussen) Mahoney, Darren (Michelle Cincunegui) Mahoney, Tyler Hammond, Olivia Hammond, Alexa (Richard) Ruggiero and Lindsay Scianna and great grandmother of Lucia Piroscafo, Ariah Mahoney and Scarlett Ruggiero. She was also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.
Jean was predeceased by her grandson Eric Mahoney, three brothers, Stanley, John and Frank Eckert, two sisters, Anna Cwalina and Sophie Krushinski and her son-in-law Larry Piroscafo.
On Wednesday, friends may call from 9:00 to 10:15 AM at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton. Her funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 AM for her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Church. Her burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
