Jennie Karpovich, age 92, of Derby, entered into rest on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Karpovich and loving mother of the late Robert Karpovich.
Mrs. Karpovich was born in Derby, on September 30, 1923, daughter of the late Saverio and Rose (Carraturo) Mingrone.
Jennie served our country in the Air Force during WWII as an airplane mechanic specialist. She worked at Tanner’s Restaurant in Ansonia for many years. Jennie enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She had annual summer cookouts in her backyard, and prepared delicious Italian dishes. Jennie loved the holidays, and her home was always decorated to perfection for every holiday. She also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, watching Notre Dame Football, the New York Yankees and UCONN Women’s Basketball.
Jennie leaves a devoted sister Josephine Blackwell, sister-in-laws, Nina and Gen Mingrone and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings James Mingrone, Catherine Sampiere, Mary Ferrara, William, Anthony and Alfred Mingrone.
There are no calling hours. A prayer service with military honors on Saturday, January 30th at 9:00 a.m. in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery, 219 New Haven Avenue, Derby.
