Joan A. Lydem, age 66, of Seymour, entered into rest on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport. She is the devoted wife of 47 years of Wayne Lydem. Joan was born in Derby on August 9, 1957, the daughter of the late Joseph and Jennie (Pogozelski) Martin.
She was a Vocational Job Development Specialist for St. Vincent Special Needs for 34 years, and immensely enjoyed working with her special clients. Joan enjoyed walking, hiking, and playing bingo. She was devoted to her grandchildren and loved to attend their events.
She is the beloved mother of Wayne Lydem, Jr. (Annalucy) and Christa Franco, and proud grandmother of Jasmine and Vanessa Franco and Joseph and Kaylib Lydem. She is also survived by four sisters, Judy Renkewith, Josephine Gaida (John), Carol Redente (Robert), and Mary Veneri (Al), and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister Rosemary Piccolo.
Joan was a member of the New Life Church which brought her great solace.
Friends may greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, on Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM. On Thursday her funeral service will begin at 11 AM at Riverview. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
