Mrs. Joan (Burkle) Walsh, age 82, wife of the late Robert J. Walsh, formerly of Shelton entered into rest on Tuesday April 23, 2019 at the Hearth at Southbury.
She was born on November 29, 1936 in New Haven, the daughter of the late Frederick and Mary Burkle of North Haven.
Joan grew up in North Haven, then graduated from Hamden High School, Quinnipiac College, and Southern Connecticut State College.
She worked as a medical secretary at St. Raphael’s and then as an elementary teacher in Shelton for 22 years.
She was a catechist at St. Joseph’s of Shelton and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society. She is survived by her five loving children: Wendy Borowy (Tom), Shelley Blake (Ron), Nancy Robinson (Mark), Mary Lisa Walsh, and James Walsh (Daniela).
She was also the proud grandmother of Ryan, Sean, Megan, and Bridget Borowy, Jamie and Stacy Blake, Brenna and Christian Robinson, Rebecca and Rachel Martinez, Robert, Gabriela and Emily Walsh. She is also survived by her brother Frederick Burkle, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her brother Richard Burkle.
Friends are invited to greet her family on Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton.
Friends are invited to go directly to St. Joseph Church, 50 Fairmont Pl. Shelton, on Monday at 10:30 am for her Mass of Christian Burial.
Internment will follow at Mt. St. Peter Cemetery, Derby. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church, 50 Fairmont Pl.
