Joan Carol (Strand) Petruzzello, age 82, beloved wife of Anthony S. Petruzzello of Woodbridge, CT passed away surrounded by her loving family on March 12, 2016.
Joan was born April 5, 1934 in Canaan, CT and was the daughter of the late John and Rose (Pieger) Strand.
Joan graduated from Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing and practiced nursing at Waterbury Hospital and Griffin Hospital. Her last position in nursing was as Director of Nursing at Milford Hospital. After Joan’s nursing career, she began working alongside her husband, daughter and son-in-law, at the family’s trucking business, Petruzzello Transport Inc.
Throughout her life, Joan continued to care for her family and loved ones. She loved spending time with her friends & family, reading, baking cookies, cooking casseroles and shopping. She was active with the Red Hat Ladies and with the Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association.
In addition to her husband, Joan leaves behind her daughter Cheryl LaPaglia, son-in-law Sal, and grandchildren, David and Alyse. Joan was predeceased by her brother Theodore “Ted” Strand. She is survived by her sister-in-law Mary Lou Strand of Missoula, Montana, half-sister Ruth Buchanan of Tolland, CT, half-brother William Strand of Farmington, CT, and several nieces & nephews. She was also predeceased by her half-sister, Donna Lastra.
The family wants to sincerely thank the nurses and staff at VITAS Hospice, where Joan spent her last days comfortably and well-cared for. Also, they would like to extend a special thank you to Sue, Ruth and Cedric for helping and caring for her.
Friends, acquaintances and relatives may call at The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia, CT on Saturday March 19, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. (www.jenkinskingfh.com) Joan will be buried privately in the family plot at Mountain View Cemetery in Canaan, CT.
