John A. Bondos, age 94, of Shelton entered into eternal rest on January 2, 2021 with his loving family by his side.
He was the devoted husband of 70 years to Thelma Bondos. John was born in Shelton on December 11, 1926, son of the late Andrew and Victoria Opalinski Bondos.
John left Bullard Havens High School after being drafted in 1944 to serve in the Navy during WW II. After returning from the Navy and completing high school, John graduated college with a degree in secondary education. He started his teaching career at Huntington School and continued at Shelton High School as a Math Teacher. After obtaining a Master’s Degree in Administration, he became principal at Elizabeth Shelton School, before being transferred to Shelton High School where he was appointed Vice Principal then Principal. His final position in the Shelton School System was as principal of Lafayette School, which he held until his retirement.
He was a longtime member of the Sutter-Terlizzi American Legion Post 16. He was one of the longest standing members at the Highland Golf Club. He is the beloved father of Leslie Bondos, Candee Sollami (Vincent) and John A. Bondos, Jr., loving grandfather of Angela Putney, Joseph Sollami, Nicole Bondos, Britney Bondos. He is also survived by one sister Elizabeth Walsh and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers Joseph, Stanley, and Henry Bondos, and four sisters, Janet Waleski, Julia Gyurko, Bertha Eccles, Helen Finnance.
A walk-through visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday 4 to 6 p.m. at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St., Derby. Visitors are asked to wear masks and social distance as they walk through, pay their respects and exit without lingering to ensure all guests can come through. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Fridday at 11 a.m. in St. Michael Church, 75 Derby Ave., Derby. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Michael Cemetery Derby. Masks and social distancing are required to attend the mass and cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to “The John A.
