John Chulak

John (Jack) George Chulak, Jr., age 91, of Shelton entered into rest on Saturday March 8, 2014 in St. Vincent Medical Center with his loving family by his side. John met the love of his life, Dorothy (Oleyar) Chulak in 1947, they married on Thanksgiving Day in 1950 and shared the next 63 years together.

He was born in Bridgeport on May 16, 1922 son of the late John G. and Anna (Vargoshe) Chulak. 

John attended Central High School and then went on to serve his country during W.W. II in the U.S. Navy, serving in Panama and receiving the Good Conduct Medal and Victory Ribbon. After returning from the war, John continued his education at Bullard Haven Technical School. He started his career at Singer Manufacturing Company in Bridgeport as a Tool and Die Maker, where he was employed for 28 years. In 1968, he continued his career at Dresser Manufacturing in Stratford, being employed there, for 19 years until his retirement.

He was a member of the St. John Nepomucene Catholic War Veteran, Post 1250, where he served as 1st Vice Commander and also the Post’s Historian. He is currently a member of St. Michael’s Catholic War Veteran, Post 1562. Also a member of The Dresser Manufacturing Retirees Club where he served as the treasure and enjoyed many trips with his wife. 

Since his youth, John enjoyed duckpin bowling. He was a member of the Holy Name Bowling League and Dresser League and always loved a challenging game of duckpin bowling.

In retirement he loved to travel to numerous places with his wife Dorothy. Anyone who remembers John would describe him as a kind and generous man with a great sense of humor.

He is the beloved father of 4 daughters Denise (Ken) Monks of Naugatuck, Barbara (Tom) Conroy of West Haven, Judy (Jim) Hejlik of Mead, Colorado and the late Regina Chulak; proud grandfather of Robert Monks and Amy Cordon, Kristina and Colleen Conroy, Kelly McGannon, Thomas and Danny Hejlik. He was also predeceased by his brother George John Chulak.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton. His funeral will leave the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:15 am for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Margaret Mary Church. Burial will follow with full military honors in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Trumbull.
