John G. Giovacchino

John G. Giovacchino, a 91-year-old resident of Oxford, passed away at home March 25.

He was born October 21, 1919, in Ansonia, son of the late Gennaro and Caroline Pizzoferrato Giovacchino. A resident of Oxford since 1956, he attended Ansonia public schools and graduated from Pine Manual Training School.

An Army Veteran of the 706th Tank Battalion during World War II, he worked as a foreman for Charles J. Dickgiesser Co. of Derby. John was a Past Captain of the Quaker Farms Fire Company and served on the Oxford Board of Finance, and also as its chairman. He was a former member of Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia and was an avid outdoors person who loved to hunt and trap. 

He is survived by his son, John C. Giovacchino, and daughter, Carol Edwards, both of Oxford; his brother Gennaro Giovacchino of Seymour; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. In addition to his wife Caroline, he was predeceased by brothers Paul, William, Angelo, Salvatore, Joseph and Ottavio Giovacchino.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. from The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin Street. Ansonia.

Friends may call on Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT. 06405.
