John G. “DeGe” DeGennaro

John G. DeGe” DeGennaro, age 72, entered eternal rest on May 19, 2024, at Griffin Hospital, with his beloved sister and brother-in-law by his side. 

DeGe was born in Derby on November 22, 1951, son of the late Francis A. Tootie” DeGennaro, Sr. and Louise J. Bartone DeGennaro. A lifelong resident of Derby, he was employed as an ACS dispatcher at Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford for forty years until his retirement. 

He was a 1969 graduate of Derby High School and earned an associate’s degree from Housatonic Community College. DeGe was devoted to his Catholic faith, attended daily Mass, and watched the daily television Mass, and was a devoted son to his parents. 

DeGe had the love, knowledge, and expertise for everything Christmas. He enjoyed reading, watching classic movies along with mysteries, sitting outside in the sun, eating sweets,” and especially talking and spending time with his friends, sister, and brother-in-law. 

DeGe was a gentle, caring, kind-hearted soul and just the nicest guy, and will truly be missed by all. 

He leaves to cherish his memory, a sister, Attorney Barbara Lynn DeGennaro and her husband, Kenneth Marcucio, Jr. of Derby, along with several dear friends and many relatives. 

Per John’s request, his funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church in Derby and interment in the family plot in Mount Saint Peter Cemetery in Derby was held in private. Memorial contributions in John’s name may be made directly to The Center for Cancer Care at Griffin Hospital 5K Funds, 350 Seymour Avenue, Derby, CT 06418.
