John J. Hollo Sr., age 88, formerly of Beacon Falls and Shelton, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 30, 2022, in Florida. He was the loving and devoted husband of fifty-nine years to Gloria (Testa) Hollo.
John was born in Derby on September 12, 1933, son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Patrick) Hollo. He was employed by Sikorsky Aircraft for thirty-six years, until his retirement in 1993. For many years after retirement, John worked with his son John Jr. at his business, Custom Surfacing and Cabinetry in Shelton.
John graduated Shelton High School in 1952 and immediately entered the United States Navy. He honorably served his country and participated in Operation Deep Freeze I and II, Antarctica, 1955 thru 1957. John is a lifetime member of OAEA, Old Antarctic Explorer Association and a member of American Legion, Emil Senger Post 10, in Seymour, CT. He was the chauffer for his grandchildren to and from school and enjoyed attending all their sporting events, recitals, and school events. John was an avid fan of UConn Women’s Basketball and enjoyed attending games with his wife, daughter, and friends. John’s biggest joy in life was spending time with his wife and family.
In addition to his wife Gloria, John leaves to cherish his memory, a daughter, Charlene Hollo, a son, John Hollo Jr. and his wife Donnine, proud Papa to grandchildren, Matthew, Gianna and Claudia Hollo, in-laws, Henry Testa, Carol Testa and Barbara DeLoughery along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Sicignano.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Friday, July 22, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the chapel of SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Saturday, July 23, 2022, all are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial, meeting directly, at 10: 00 am at St. Michaels Church, 25 Maple Avenue in Beacon Falls. Inurnment with military honors will immediately follow in Mountain Meadows Cemetery, 117 Mountain Road in Seymour.
