John James Matyas, 71, of Ansonia, entered into eternal rest on May 25, 2014, at Griffin Hospital. He was the beloved and devoted husband of Linda Smith Matyas.
Mr. Matyas was born in Bridgeport on January 26, 1943, son of the late John and Esther Caffrey Matyas. He was a graduate of Warren Harding H.S. and Bullard Havens Technical School both in Bridgeport. A resident of Ansonia since 1976, he was employed as a barber for 37 years. John enjoyed singing in church and had a great love for missions.
In addition to his wife Linda, he is survived by special aunts, Mary Gasker of Fairfield and Consuelo Marko of Baltimore, MD, a nephew, Kevin Tote of Stratford, several cousins in Pennsylvania, numerous friends and his canine buddy Pooh Bear. He was predeceased by a sister, Elaine Tote and canine buddies Tippy, Tera and Poco.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday May 29, 2014, from 3 – 6 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. At 6:00 pm, a funeral service in celebration of John’s life will take place with Pastor Richard Lynn officiating. Interment will take place on Friday May 30, 2014, at 10:00 am (MEET DIRECTLY) at St. Thomas Cemetery, Mill Plain Road in Fairfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John’s name may be made to Grace Bible Church in Shelton or VARCA in Derby through the funeral home.
