John L. Coppola, age 77, husband of Janet Bachkowsky Coppola and Shelton resident, died surrounded by his loving family at Griffin Hospital Nov. 1.
He was born Dec. 22, 1934 in Derby, son of the late Joseph & Anna Petruzzello Coppola. A Veteran of the 82nd Army Airborne Division during the Korean War, John was a member of The American Legion Post of Shelton and a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church in Shelton. He graduated from Pine High School in Ansonia, worked as a self employed carpet cleaner and enjoyed Trapshooting at the Ansonia Rod & Gun Club. An avid guitar player, John was instrumental in forming a band at the Shelton Senior Center “Sentimental Journey.”
In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory his sons John M. Coppola & his wife Catherine of Shelton, James Coppola & his wife Michele of Southport, daughter Lori Ann Coppola of Ansonia, brother Anthony Coppola of Naugatuck, sister Rose Marie Conroy of Seymour and two cherished grandchildren, Michael & Nicholas Coppola, as well as several nieces & nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Joseph Coppola.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in Shelton. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Shelton.
