John R. Cannici

John R. Cannici, age 69, husband of Marian Cannici and resident of Southbury, entered into eternal rest Feb. 16. 

He was born Jan 17, 1949 in Derby, son of the late James and Mary Chevarella Cannici. 

John was a veteran of Vietnam War, serving in the Air Force. He was a member of The American Legion Post of Oxford. He worked as a foreman in the Engineering Dept. for Griffin Hospital in Derby for 36 years and was a member of The Teamsters Union Local #677. John was a devoted parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Oxford, and was an avid NASCAR fan. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Christopher Cannici of Southbury, daughters Carrie Surdel & husband Dan of Franklin Park, N.J. & Kelly Cannici of Naugatuck, sister Marie Casimates & husband Steve of Southbury, 3 beautiful grandchildren, his caring Mother-in-Law Joan Stanko of Oxford, and many loving sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles & cousins. He was predeceased by his first wife Penny Young Cannici, his brother Vincent & his sister Pamela Merithew. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday Feb. 20, with friends asked to go directly to St. Thomas The Apostle Church in Oxford for 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Mountain Meadows Cemetery in Seymour. Friends may call on Monday, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia. (www.jenkinskingfh.com)
