Joseph C. Lanzi, age 85, of Shelton entered into rest on Friday, August 29, 2014 in the Griffin Hospital, Derby. Joe was the devoted husband of the late Kathleen M. (Dolan) Lanzi.
Joe was born in Derby, on January 25, 1929 son of the late Carmine and Mary (Miani) Lanzi and was a lifelong Shelton resident. He was a U.S.Army Veteran who served in Korea. Joe was the owner and operator of Lanzi Market in Shelton for 35 years.
He was an active parishioner and volunteer at St. Joseph Church, including being an Eucharistic Minister,and a yearly volunteer at the St. Joseph Carnival.
He was a member of the Valley Grocer’s Association, former 2nd Ward Alderman a former President of the Shelton Board of Alderman member of the Shelton Republican Town Committee, Sutter-Terlizzi American Legion Post 16 and the VFW Post 1236.
He is the beloved father of Christopher Lanzi, Michael J. Lanzi and his wife Ganessa and Patricia Cuda and her husband Frank and caring brother of Ann Cairella. He is the loving grandfather of, Jacqueline, Eric, Frank, Krista, Jessica and Rui and the cherished great grandfather of, Jaiden, Samantha and Jaxson. Hei is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son Daniel Lanzi and his loving companion Barbara Scott.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 3 – 7 p.m. at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton. On Wednesday, his funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. His burial with military honors will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
