Joseph Edward Potter

Joseph Edward Potter, age 49, of Katonah, New York passed away on August 26, 2011. 

He was the dearest son of Sophie Potter and the late Laurence E. Potter. 

A graduate of Ansonia High School in Connecticut, Joe went on to Brown University where he excelled as quarterback on the football team and graduated with a degree in economics. 

He went on to receive a Masters in Business Administration from the University of California-Los Angeles.

After a long career in finance in California and New York City, Joe returned to Fairfield University where he earned a degree in education. 

Joe spent the past eight years teaching mathematics to elementary school students, most recently at the Rippowam Cisqua School in Bedford, New York, where he also coached several sports. 

Joe was inducted into the Ansonia High School Athletic Hall of Fame and the Brown University Athletic Hall of Fame, and was also the recipient of a lifetime achievement award from the UCLA Business School. 

Joe’s children, Sophie and Henry, were the center of his life. 

He was admired by his family and friends, never more so than during his three year battle with inoperable lung cancer. 

Joe is survived by his wife Carol; his children, Sophie and Henry; his mother, Sophie Potter, of Stratford, Connecticut; brothers, Larry Potter (Nancy) of Waterford, Connecticut and Thomas Potter (Andrea) of Cazenovia, New York; sister, Mary Jimenez (Carmelo) of Stratford, Connecticut; nieces and nephews Lauren Krupansky, Philip Potter, Anthony Potter, Andrew Jimenez and Julia Jimenez, all of whom adored their beloved Uncle Joe. Also, Joe will be deeply missed by his close aunts, uncles and cousins. 

Services will be private, with a memorial service to be held in the future. 

Donations may be made in Joe’s memory to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
