Joseph John Stobierski

Joseph John Stobierski, an 80 year old Derby resident and husband to Joyce Martin Stobierski, entered into eternal rest Jan. 13 at The Veterans’ Hospital in West Haven. 

He was born Dec. 4, 1942 in Derby, son of the late Anthony and Anna Tybuski Stobierski. Joseph was a Veteran of The U.S. Navy and also served as Deputy Fire Marshal for The City of Derby. He was a member of The Storm Engine Co. #2 and The Paugassett Hook & Ladder Co. #4 for 59 years. He served as Derby Fire Chief from 1975 — 1982, and served in The Derby Fire Marshal’s office from 1995 to 2022. 

In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory his son Jeffrey Stobierski, step-son John Cotter (Hope) step-daughter CarrieAnn Cotter Greiser (Paul) brothers Robert Stobierski (Lisa) & Thomas Stobierski, sister Carol Stobierski, sister-in-law Sandra Stobierski, granddaughter Calleigh Cotter, grandson Jackson Cotter as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces & nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother William. 

He was a member of The Valley Fire Chief’s Assoc., The CT State Fire Marshal’s Assoc., The CT State Fire Fighters Assoc., The CT IAAI, The SPAAMFAA, the S.C.A.F.A.C. and The John H. Collins American Legion Post #24.

Friends may call on Wednesday, Jan. 18th 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia, CT. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home where Military Honors will be rendered. 

Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to The Southern Connecticut Antique Fire Apparatus Collectors. (S.C.A.F.A.C.)

The family would like to thank Dr. Chao, the Fusion Team, the Triage Team, the front end staff and Dr. Kumar, as well as the amazing Community Life Center Team (Hospice) at The West Haven CT Veterans’ Administration Center for the professional care they gave to Joseph.
