Joseph Moore, Sr.

Joseph Moore, Sr., age 82, of Derby, peacefully entered into rest on Friday, January 21, 2022, in his home in Woodbridge with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara (Ryan) Moore. Joseph was born in Derby on March 22, 1939, son of the late Dora (Cirillo) Moore, and lived in Derby most of his life.

He was a welder by trade for 60 years and owned the B&R Welding Services before his retirement. Joe was a member of the Hotchkiss Hose FD in Derby for over 50 years and a Past Captain. He was heavily involved in city politics and devoted to the Derby community. He was also a former Supernumerary Officer for the City of Derby. He enjoyed visiting the casino, playing golf and softball, and was a longtime fan of UConn Basketball. He never missed a sporting event that his grandchildren were involved in.

He is the beloved father of Joseph Moore, Jr. and his wife Lori, Michael Moore, and Lizzy Benanto and her husband Chris, proud grandfather of Kenny, Nick, Michael, Chris, Bradley, Connor, Zach, Samantha, and Bella, and great-grandfather of Nicky and Ollie, Hailey, Colin, Curtiss, and Alex. He is also survived by his loving companion Joanne Passaretti and her family.

Friends may greet the family at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth Street, Derby, on Tuesday January 25, 2022 from 5 to 7 PM. On Wednesday a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am in St. Mary’s Church, 212 Elizabeth St. Derby. Burial will follow at Mt. St. Peter Cemetery.
