Joseph P. Cimino Sr.

Joseph P. Cimino Sr., 94, entered into eternal rest on April 15, 2017, at CT Hospice in Branford. He was the beloved husband of the late Eva Tiano Cimino. 

Mr. Cimino was born in Shelton on Sept. 19, 1922, son of the late Bernardino and Mary Grace DeSantis Cimino. 

At the age of 20, he was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Corp. He served his basic training at the 475th Bomb Squad at Barksdale Field, LA and served 3 years in India with the Air Transport Command. 

Following his honorable discharge, he was employed by S.F. Sansone Co. in Branford as a display merchandiser. He was later employed by Hunter Wilson, a division of Seagram Distillers. Later, he moved to Four Roses Distillers where he was promoted to CT/RI Regional Manager. Subsequently, Calvert Distillers and Four Roses Distillers merged forming the Calvert Distillers Co. Mr. Cimino became State Manager until his retirement. 

Mr. Cimino served on the Board of Apportionment and Taxation in Derby for 6 years. He was appointed a Democratic member of the Finance Committee in Derby and served as Chairman. Mr. Cimino was an active member and served as President of the former Derby East Side Italian American Club. He was a former member of the C.W.V., Nutmeg A.C. and Derby Democratic Town Committee. He was a Golden Card Member of the Derby and Ansonia Senior Centers, a member of the Osbornedale State Park Gang and the CT Liquor Distillery State Managers Association.

He is survived by a loving son, Joseph P. Cimino Jr. and his wife Mary Ann of Franconia, NH, a loving daughter, Jane Senetcky and her husband Stephen Rocky” of Derby, cherished grandchildren, Heather Callaghan (Patrick) of Derby, Stephen Senetcky of Ansonia and Anthony Cimino of Franconia, NH, great-grandsons, Ryan and Sean Callaghan of Derby and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Mary Jackem, Filomena Giardina, Angelina Guliuzza, Lena Zampano, Anna Sampiere and Julia Cannetti and a brother, Anthony Red” Cimino. 

His funeral will take place on Thursday April 20, 2017, at 11:00 am at St. Jude Church in Derby for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with U.S. Army military honors will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby. Visiting will be held on THURSDAY MORNING from 9:00 am until the procession leaves for church in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver St. in Ansonia.
