Joseph R. “Jake” Soda Jr.

Joseph R. Jake” Soda Jr., 92, of Naugatuck, entered into eternal rest on September 30, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Sally Golis Soda for 68 years.

Joseph was born in Derby on May 12, 1921, son of the late Joseph Sr. and Mary Pietrosanto Soda. He was a proud WW II Navy veteran and retired from American Brass Co. in Ansonia. Joseph was very active in the community and past commander and adjutant for American Legion John H. Collins Post 24 in Derby and was president of the Nutmeg AC for 50 years; a group founded by East Derby neighborhood friends. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. Joe enjoyed golfing, dancing and traveling. He always had an interesting story of his life experiences in his 92 years to relate to family and friends.

In addition to his wife Sally, he is survived by two sons, Thomas Soda and his wife Cathy of Derby and Robert Soda and his wife Margaret of Shelton, a daughter, Ginny Medeiros of Naugatuck, five cherished grandchildren, Christine Soda (Eddie Ortiz), Michele Soda, Thomas Soda (Julia) Michael Medeiros (Alexis Lord Voss) and Christopher Medeiros (Danielle), two great-grandchildren, Jake Soda and Samantha Medeiros, three sisters, Connie Dudley of CA, Rose Aceto of NV, and Lillian Lessa of NC, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son in law, Manuel Lefty” Medeiros and sisters, Mary Massa and Anna Newman.

Per Mr. Soda’s request, his funeral service will be private and inurnment with US Navy military honors will take place in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby. There will be no calling hours. The SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia, has been privileged with the arrangements.
